Last night we went to our first Louisville game – in this case they were mauling an overmatched South Florida team in the Friday night ESPN game. For this particular game, faculty and staff of the university were able to get tickets for only $10, and I know a couple people who fit that descripton and got us some tickets, so we went with another couple. After finally finding where to park and hiking to the stadium (got there 2nd quarter) we had a pretty nice time. I have decided to prefer Louisville to Kentucky.
It was the first major college game (in other words, non-Furman game) I had been to in a long time. I am sometimes surprised at the passion and behavior of some people at such games. It really makes me wonder how I would deal with a desire to take kids to a game like that knowing the kind of language, drunkeness, and plain silliness they would hear all around them. Oh well. I do care about sports and have my teams and get into the games, but I really don’t understand the kind of passion for sports that provokes people to behave like 7 year olds.
And, with apologies to many of you, I just don’t really care for the wave. There, I said it. Yeah it looks kind of cool from afar…. but how entertaining is it, really.
