Keri and I were going to go to a movie last weekend but there wasn’t one we were really interested in seeing. We had seen advertisements for a new romantic comedy that looks pretty interesting: In Good Company. We’re interested in it because 1) it stars Topher Grace who we really liked in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton (probably Keri’s #1 favorite movie right now and a nice Christmas gift from her sister, and 2) it’s made by the folks who made a great little movie called About A Boy. So we’re looking forward to this movie to begin with, but then they gave us a little incentive…
The cool thing is that the company that produced the film, Grace Hill Media, is pioneering a new marketing venue: Blogs (like this one!) They have offered to give 2 free tickets to advanced screenings to bloggers that agree to write about the movie. So I’m in (I like to write about movies anyway). I can imagine sitting in there with the print media critics and the like looking around a trying to figure out why the theatre is so full. Now they’re even saying that one blogger will get a private advanced screening for as many people as they want to bring. That would be sweet.
Anyway, the trailer is here if you’re interested in seeing what I’m talking about. I’m guessing it will be more of a chick-flick (aren’t all romantic comedies) but looks like it has its redeeming qualities. Some of you probably remember Dennis Quaid in The Rookie – he’s also in this film.
Blog marketing is, I think, a great concept. Of course, a studio has to be confident in its product to utilize it, because bloggers are typically opinionated and will call it like they really see it. Hopefully it works out that In Good Company is a good movie, and that Grace Hill Media is successful in their blog marketing.
