Well today officially begins the spring semester at Southern Seminary. It’s hard to call it “Spring” when we haven’t been above freezing in quite a while. It’s cold up here! But nevertheless it is upon us. Here’s what’s on tap for me:
* Ecclesiology (Doctrine of the Church)- a Theology Seminar with Dr. Gregg Allison. There are 21 students in it which is really huge for a doctoral seminar. The workload is pretty heavy for this one but I’m really looking forward to it. The topic is really interesting and Dr. Allison is great.
* Buddhism (actually it’s Trends in the Development of Buddhist Thought)- with Dr. James Chancellor. With only 4 students (I think) it’s much smaller and the topic is obviously quite different. In our shrinking world and increasingly multi-cultural society I think it’s important to grow in our understanding of other religious worldviews that we may better understand others and share Christ with them. Eastern religions in particular are growing in influence in our culture.
I also serve as Dr. Chancellor’s Garrett Fellow, which essentially means I grade papers and stuff for his master’s level courses for a little extra money.
* Philosophy Colloquium. The faculty and doctroal students in the areas of Apologetics/Worldview and Philosophy will meet to discuss a particular book in the field. This semester we will be diving into a new book called To Everyone an Answer, edited by Francis Beckwith, William Lane Craig, and JP Moreland.
Well…. I gotta go read!
