I’ve not been blogging much lately because I’ve had a lot of other stuff to do. I do miss it and hope to blog a lot this summer. I’m still trying to finish my final paper of the semester, having received a gracious extension from the professor. The subject of the paper, if you’re curious, is “The Church as Apologetic,” or “The Apologetic of Christian Community.” An apologetic, of course, is some reason or evidence given for the truth of something – in this case the Christian gospel. My paper hopefully argues that the very existence of the Church is powerful evidence, but extends beyond its existence to the very life of Christian community, the love and unity among believers (that should be present), and their transformed lives. See John 17, 13:34-35, 1 Cor. 12:12-26, Gal. 3:28. etc.) Incidentally, the idea of the Church itself as an apologetic is not new – it was very common among the early fathers. In the paper (so far) I cite Tertullian and Augustine as examples. Anyway, I hope to complete the paper in the not-too-distant future.

If you ask those who know me well, I have had something of an obsession with finding a name for our son. Thus far the “perfect name” has been elusive. We have some ideas, but nothing that (to me) leaps off the page. By the way, the best book I’ve seen is the Baby Name Wizard, if you’re looking. There are several helpful websites, too.

I’ve failed to mention it yet, but Alex O’Nan and Laura Beth Atwood are getting married. While such news is really fun without anything extra, it is especially gratifying to Keri and I because we (esp Keri) had a bit to do with them getting together. You can read about it on Alex’s blog (see link above or on sidebar) – it’s a good story that will show what a mack-daddy he really is. (Is mack-daddy an expression that is still in use?). Congrats to them!

Here’s an interesting article on Billy Graham that appeared in USA Today. Good guy, Billy Graham. I don’t always love the methods but I love the heart and the mindset. (Thanks to GotDesign for the link)
