The damage from Hurricane Katrina appears to be unprecedented. Reportedly, 80% of New Orleans is underwater, after one or two levies were compromised. The pictures are pretty amazing and sad. One dark side to the story is the problem with looting – I saw a picture of a woman wading through chest-deep water and felt sorry for her until I read the caption, which indicated she was on her way to loot a nearby store. I heard someone comment that these kinds of situations bring out the best and worst in humanity. Indeed. It’s an ugly situation for those on the Gulf Coast, and the difficult times may last for weeks or months.

We’re actually getting dumped on today with a lot of rain – though obviously its nothing like what happened yesterday down on the coast.
