One of the great annual sporting events in this country is the US Open (tennis) in Flushing Meadows NY. This year’s event has been overshadowed by the Katrina disaster and, as always, the start of football. It’s a shame, though, because its an interesting year for American men. While Andy Roddick somehow lost in the first round, three other Americans are making fairly unlikely runs. Roby Ginepri (of the Atlanta area, pictured) is an unseeded, unheralded American who has made it through to the semifinals. As I write, 35 year old Andre Agassi is duking it out with James Blake, another unseeded American who has struggled with injuries but is finally putting together a nice run. Too bad I don’t have any time to watch between work and school! But if you do…. you ought to turn it on. But, hey, I like tennis.
