Part of me wants to think this a satirical Lark News piece. But part of me knows that this is real. A group of Southern Baptists from Alabama were helping run a relief station for hurricane victims in Clewiston, Florida. There was a long line of people there to get food and water. Well, the SBC relief workers refused to pass out some of the water. Why, you ask? It turns out that the H2O had been donated by the Anheuser Busch Company and the cups (or cans or whatever) bore the Busch or Budweiser logo. Seriously – turns out that a local TV station was there to tell the story. That’s what you call building (or was that burning?) bridges, folks.
In a related story, they refused to hand out blankets donated by Disney. OK I made that last part up. But, in all seriousness, and I ask as a member of the SBC, what are these people thinking???

Update: Maybe they got a clue. The NBC-2 story contained an update that said that as the crew was leaving they saw members of the SBC team handing out the water after all.
Update #2: Apparently there was other water available, so those being helped weren’t going without. But what if the Busch water had been all that was available? What would happen then? I still think it’s pretty silly.
