John Smoltz is money! Despite an ailing shoulder, he reclaimed his place as the winningest postseason pitcher in the history of baseball (numbers that would be better if he hadn’t moved to the closer role for a few years) in beating Roger Clemens last night in a must-win game for the Braves. (Smoltz has long been my favorite player for the way he plays and the way he conducts himself off the field too.) Smoltz was good, but it was a team effort. Rooke Brian McCann got the team and the crowd riled up with a clutch 3 run home run. Chipper made two great defensive stops, at least one of which saved a run.
The Braves are not out of it, but this is still a difficult series heading to Houston. Hopefully Jorge Sosa can step up Saturday.
