People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has set up a protest outside the Department of Agriculture in Washington DC in which naked protesters lay in flowery coffins. The purpose of the protest is “to remind consumers that an addiction to poultry could lead to a bird-flu pandemic.” A PETA leader said, “It’s payback time, with avian flu now showing up as a direct consequence of a very sick and cruel industry.” I wonder – is he arguing that the just consequence of eating meat is death? (Such a position would be pretty ironic given that the same guy is almost certainly pro-abortion and anti-death penalty when it comes to human beings.) As you know, in the PETA worldview we are all a bunch of animals and the chicken is our brother.
Just so you know, the CDC says that the much balleyhooed bird flu, while a real threat, cannot be transmitted through cooked meat. So, those of you who were planning on eating your chicken raw can thank PETA for the timely warning not to do so. But should you choose to adopt a vegan diet, be on guard against vengeful mushrooms and peanuts.
