The Super Bowl is over-hyped to the point of being ridiculous. The level of analysis and dissection is just nauseating. Nonetheless the game itself is a fun American tradition and a good opportunity to get together with friends and eat food that is bad for you. I don’t particularly care who wins this year (as with most years). Though I like several players on the Pittsburgh side (Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, Jerome Bettis) and wouldn’t mind seeing them win, I’m probably going to root for Seattle. I don’t really know why. I will pick them to win 27-23. But what do I know?
Apparently there are a number of players on both teams who are committed believers. Here’s an article about some of the Steelers. Here’s one about the Seahawks. It is refreshing that, in the midst of a throng of media who think (or act like) the Super Bowl is the biggest thing in the universe, to hear the league MVP say, “We believe life itself with Jesus Christ is more important than what we do on the field. We want to make sure our focus is on more than this game. We have a bigger calling.”
