A couple weeks ago I blogged about some of Greenville’s famous sons, and mentioned John Piper, Jesse Jackson, and Shoeless Joe Jackson as the ones I thought were the three most famous Greenville natives. (John Piper is, of course, famous within the Evangelical world but not as well known locally.)
I should have waited until this month as it is clear that I missed someone. We could call George Hincapie Greenville’s most celebrated resident (at least this month) as he still lives in the area. Hincapie was a teammate of Lance Armstrong and is not a featured rider in the Tour de France. He wore the yellow jersey for a day and currently sits two and a half minutes off the lead in 17th place. If he somehow manages to win the tour, then he will certainly be immortalized in Greenville. We’re rooting for him.
